What Wave Motion means physically
A travelling wave transfers energy and information through a disturbance while medium particles oscillate about equilibrium; the medium does not travel with the wave.
Speed, frequency and wavelength obey v=fλ. For y=A sin(kx−ωt+φ), k=2π/λ and ω=2πf.

Worked checkpoint with interpretation
A ripple of frequency 5.0 Hz has wavelength 0.60 m, so its speed is 3.0 m/s. Doubling frequency in the same medium halves wavelength.
Do not stop at the number. State what the sign, ratio, spacing, frequency or direction means. A common error is Treating amplitude as wavelength, mixing particle velocity with wave speed, or forgetting that frequency is set by the source.
