What Parabola means physically

A parabola is the locus of points equidistant from a focus and directrix. Its equation encodes vertex, axis, focus, directrix, latus rectum and tangent geometry.

For y²=4ax, focus=(a,0), directrix x=−a, and tangent at (at²,2at) is ty=x+at².
