Electrons Study Guide: NEB 12 Physics
Master Electrons through physical meaning, diagrams, a reliable answer method and exam-focused practice.
Seven-session plan
Turn Electrons into retrievable knowledge
The electron is a negatively charged quantum particle. Experiments measure charge-to-mass behaviour, discrete charge and wave-like properties rather than a tiny classical ball trajectory alone.
- Map prerequisites and definitions.
- Derive or justify the main relation: In a uniform electric field F=eE; through potential V, gained kinetic energy is eV. For crossed undeflected fields v=E/B.
- Redraw diagrams from memory.
- Study this worked checkpoint: An electron accelerated through 200 V gains 200 eV of kinetic energy, equal to 3.20×10⁻17 J.
- Mix conceptual and numerical questions.
- Complete a timed closed-book set.
- Retest only the first wrong decision in each answer.
Use contrast tables and error cards
Place easily confused ideas side by side. Write what stays fixed, what changes, the governing equation and the observable consequence. One high-value warning is: Using electron-volt as voltage, losing the negative-charge direction, or applying nonrelativistic formulas at extreme energy.
Use spaced retrieval: ten minutes today, a closed-book test tomorrow and a mixed review after one week. Explain every graph or diagram aloud before using algebra.
NEB answer method
Diagram → principle → equation → check
First identify the physical system and what the question asks. Label the diagram with SI quantities, then write the principle in words before selecting a formula. Solve symbolically where possible and check dimensions, limiting cases and direction.
| Stage | Question to ask | Evidence in answer |
|---|---|---|
| Model | What is idealised? | Boundary or assumption stated |
| Representation | Which diagram fits? | Labels, nodes, rays or energy arrows |
| Calculation | Which relation follows? | Symbols then SI values |
| Evaluation | Does it make sense? | Unit, sign and trend check |
Make the idea concrete in Nepal
Connect the model to a school laboratory, musical instrument, auditorium, mobile communication, optical instrument or energy device. The example should clarify the physics rather than merely mention a place. For a visual experiment, use PhET Wave Interference and record which variable you changed and what observation followed.

Frequently asked questions
Questions students ask about Electrons
The electron is a negatively charged quantum particle. Experiments measure charge-to-mass behaviour, discrete charge and wave-like properties rather than a tiny classical ball trajectory alone.
In a uniform electric field F=eE; through potential V, gained kinetic energy is eV. For crossed undeflected fields v=E/B.
Draw the situation, list known quantities in SI units, choose the governing relation symbolically, substitute once and finish with a unit and reasonableness check.
Using electron-volt as voltage, losing the negative-charge direction, or applying nonrelativistic formulas at extreme energy.
Alternate one concept explanation, one diagram and two numericals. Revisit errors after a day instead of only rereading the solution.
