Worked example
A 12 V source across 4 Ω gives 3 A and 36 W. Two equal 4 Ω resistors in parallel give 2 Ω, not 8 Ω.
The governing relationship is Ohm law is V=IR; series resistances add, while parallel branches satisfy 1/R=Σ1/Ri. Electrical power is P=VI. Check the convention, geometry or boundary condition before calculation.

Diagram → principle → equation → check
First identify the physical system and what the question asks. Label the diagram with SI quantities, then write the principle in words before selecting a formula. Solve symbolically where possible and check dimensions, limiting cases and direction.
