What Regression means physically

Regression models the expected response as predictors change. A fitted line summarizes pattern and supports interpolation with uncertainty; it does not automatically establish causation or remain valid far outside observed data.

For least-squares line ŷ=a+bx, b=Σ(x−x̄)(y−ȳ)/Σ(x−x̄)² and a=ȳ−bx̄.
