Money & Economy: Practice and Exam Tips (NEB 12)

Turn the QR Code unit into marks with payment-flow recall, security evaluation, abbreviation and pronunciation drills, question transformations and a sourced news article.

Revision targets

Prepare four strands separately

Reading

Models, transaction flow, standards, operator and security.

Words and sounds

Finance vocabulary, abbreviations, /ʊ/ and /uː/.

Grammar

Yes/no, wh-, subject, choice and indirect questions.

Writing

Sourced news article on Nepal’s digital payments.

Flow recall

Rebuild a merchant-presented payment in seven steps

  1. Merchant displays a registered static or dynamic QR code.
  2. Customer opens an official banking or wallet app.
  3. The app scans and decodes merchant data.
  4. Customer verifies merchant name and amount.
  5. Customer authorises using an approved credential.
  6. The network routes, checks and completes the transaction.
  7. Customer and merchant confirm the in-app result.

Draw the flow from memory, then explain why each security check exists.

Model contrast

Compare who displays and who scans

ModelDisplayScanExam clue
Customer-presentedCustomer phoneMerchant deviceTemporary customer code
Static merchant QRMerchantCustomer phoneAmount may be entered
Dynamic merchant QRMerchant systemCustomer phoneTransaction data may be prefilled

Operator answer

Use BRAND to explain scheme governance

Branding–Rules–Acquirers/issuers–Network operation–Disputes. A scheme operator defines acceptance identity, technical and operational rules, relationships among participants, transaction handling and procedures for exceptions or disputes.

This answer shows why scanning technology alone cannot run a trustworthy payment economy.

Security reasoning

Use VACT before confirming payment

  1. Verify merchant identity and code placement.
  2. Amount: check currency and total.
  3. Credential: protect PIN, password and one-time code.
  4. Transaction: confirm success inside the official app.

Do not accept a screenshot as proof of receipt. Static codes can be covered by fraudulent replacements, and a user can authorise the wrong amount if they skip verification.

Critical answer

Evaluate whether QR payment is a panacea

Model: QR payment solves some acceptance and cash-handling problems because a merchant can receive digital payments with relatively simple equipment and both sides gain a record. However, it cannot solve every payment problem. Smartphone access, connectivity, literacy, interoperability, security and complaint handling remain necessary. QR payment is therefore a useful channel within an inclusive payment system, not a universal replacement for all alternatives.

Nepal evidence

Distinguish data from prediction

For a Nepal answer, use a Nepal Rastra Bank figure with publication date and reporting period. Explain what it measures—transaction count, value, wallet use or mobile banking—before drawing a conclusion. Growth in transactions does not automatically prove equal rural access or absence of fraud.

Use cautious language: data indicate adoption, while policy and infrastructure may expand inclusion.

Abbreviation drill

Expand and explain, not merely recite

Short formFull formRole
QRQuick ResponseMachine-readable code
ISOInternational Organization for StandardizationInternational standards
IECInternational Electrotechnical CommissionElectrotechnical standards
URLUniform Resource LocatorWeb resource address
PINPersonal Identification NumberAuthentication credential

Pronunciation

Sort /ʊ/ and /uː/ aloud

Place put, push, hood, full, bull, book, foot, look, hook, cook, should, soot and stood under /ʊ/. Place boom, fool, food, loose, boost, groom, moon, soon, room and soothe under /uː/.

Check a learner’s dictionary because spelling alone does not reliably predict vowel length.

Question algorithm

Choose inversion only when required

  1. Decide the information requested.
  2. Ask whether the wh-word itself is the subject.
  3. If not, select the tense-appropriate auxiliary.
  4. Place subject before main verb after the auxiliary.
  5. In an indirect question, restore statement order.
TypeCorrect question
Yes/noDoes the customer need an app?
Object wh-What does the code contain?
Subject wh-Who operates the scheme?
ChoiceDoes the customer or merchant display the code?
IndirectCould you explain how the system works?

Question transformations

Repair common errors

  • Wrong: “Who does operate the scheme?” Correct neutral subject question: “Who operates the scheme?”
  • Wrong: “Do you know where is the bank?” Correct: “Do you know where the bank is?”
  • Wrong: “How the app verifies?” Correct: “How does the app verify?”
  • Wrong: “Which code the merchant displays?” Correct: “Which code does the merchant display?”

Underline subject and auxiliary in every correction.

News-writing plan

Use LEADS for digital-payment reporting

Lead–Evidence–Attribution–Drivers–Safeguard.

  1. Lead with the verified development and reporting period.
  2. Add relevant NRB data.
  3. Attribute numbers and comments.
  4. Explain drivers such as merchant acceptance and mobile access.
  5. Include security, inclusion or infrastructure limitation.

Never invent a percentage or present promotional language as independent fact.

Timed paper

Complete a forty-minute mixed test

  1. 7 minutes: draw and explain the seven-step payment flow.
  2. 7 minutes: compare customer- and merchant-presented models.
  3. 7 minutes: evaluate QR payment as a panacea.
  4. 8 minutes: correct ten question forms.
  5. 11 minutes: write a sourced news lead and two paragraphs.

Reserve three minutes to verify merchant/customer roles, indirect-question order and source attribution.

Error repair

Turn each weakness into one drill

Frequently asked questions

Money and Economy exam questions answered

Start with the two QR models, seven-step transaction flow, scheme-operator functions and VACT security check.

Name the threat, the user or network control, and how that control reduces the risk.

When the wh-word is the subject, as in “Who operates the scheme?”

After the introductory phrase, use statement order: “Could you explain how the system works?”

A precise lead, dated source, correctly described data, attributed comment and balanced limitation.
